The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of arterial insufficiency in patients undergoing CABG surgery and whether arterial insufficiency is a risk factor for postoperative wound infections in the harvesting leg. Patients who had CABG surgery were enrolled consecutively. A total of 144 patients participated in the study. During their hospital stay demographic data was recorded, as well as pre-, intra-, and postoperative tests and risk factors. The patients answered a questionnaire regarding postoperative wound infections 30 days after surgery patients answered a questionnaire regarding infections.

Myxomatous mitral valve disease is a common disease in older dogs of small- to medium-size breeds. The mitral valve, and less commonly the tricuspid valve may be affected which causes them to leak blood from the ventricle to the atrium of the heart during systole. With increasing severity of mitral valve leakage the forward stroke volume ejected into the aorta decreases, which may lead to an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary vein resulting in pulmonary edema. A decrease in cardiac output may lead to a decrease in blood pressure, but the body may respond in order to normalize the blood pressure. Franzén showed in 2007 that the systolic blood pressure was increased in dogs with severe mitral insufficiency.

Litteraturstudien grundades på metod av Forsberg & Wengström (2003). Tio vetenskapliga kvalitativa artiklar inkluderades i litteraturstudien. Resultatet visade på att patienters upplevelser av venösa bensår hade en negativ inverkan på livet. Hos patienterna fanns en ständig oro och rädsla för eventuella komplikationer, yttre våld mot såret samt känslor av hopplöshet gällande sårläkningen.

The plastic hemocytometer which has a fixed coverslip and is assigned for disposable use, appears to reduce the problems arising from the use of the traditional glass hemocytometer, for instance coverslip-application difficulty and dust particles. Capillary whole blood sampling may be useful for patients at the emergency department and in addition, a smaller volume of blood is taken compared to venous blood sampling. This study will focus on the platelet- and leukocyte count (PLT and WBC) in venous and capillary blood, in order to compare the plastic- and glass hemocytometers with Sysmex XN-2000 (Sysmex Corporation, Kobe, Japan), and verify if capillary whole blood sampling can be used for the measurement of these hematological parameters. 30 subjects donated both capillary- and venous blood samples and these blood samples were analyzed with glass- and plastic hemocytometers with Sysmex XN-2000 as the reference method.

The aim of the present study was to compare speech before and after pharyngeal flap surgery by perceptual evaluation regarding nasality, articulation and deviant speech. The study includes preoperative and postoperative speech samples of 28 patients who underwent pharyngeal flap surgery at the University Hospital in Linköping between 2002 and 2007.

Aortic insufficiency is a very common valve problem in horses and most often affects older individuals, but nevertheless existent within younger ones. The root cause for aortic insufficiency can be varied, for example; endocarditis, ventricular septum defect or congenital valve disease but the most common are progressive valve degeneration or elite competition. Depending on the root cause, different changes can be observed on the aorta valves, but they do all have the same effect, the valves do not seal properly and blood leaks backwards. Many horses can, even with this deficiency, perform highly without any visible impacts and there is therefore no need to treat those subjects. Most often the symptoms arise at a later stage in life and they are, more often than none, put down for other reasons. Olika manövrar kan genomföras för att påfresta venklaffarna och därmed framkalla en eventuell reflux, men det är oklart om de olika manövrerna kan påverka den reflux som provoceras fram och därmed också påverkar bedömningen av insufficiensgraden.Syfte: Syftet med studien var att undersöka om det förelåg skillnad i graderingen av insufficiensen samt om den maximala refluxhastigheten påverkades beroende på vilken manöver som användes för att framkalla en reflux.Metod: 20 v. saphena magna mitt på låret med påvisad reflux deltog i studien. Två upprepade mätningar genomfördes där venklaffarna provocerades med hjälp av en blodtrycksmanschett över vaden, med en manuell kompression över låret samt med en manuell kompression över vaden.Resultat: Den maximala refluxhastigheten blev 0,33±0,20m/s när en blodtrycksmanschett över vaden användes, 0,31±0,22m/s när en manuell handkompression över vaden användes samt 0,17±0,16m/s när en manuell lårkompression genomfördes.Slutsats: Ingen signifikant skillnad på maximal refluxhastighet kunde konstateras när en automatisk uppblåsbar blodtrycksmanschett över vaden jämfördes med en manuell handkompression över vaden. I Sverige lider ca 50 000 människor av svårläkta bensår och av dessa är ca 50 procent or-sakade av venös insufficiens. Patienter med bensår upplever ofta att de påverkas negativt fysiskt, psykiskt och socialt. Syftet med studien var att beskriva distriktssköterskors upple-velser av att kunna främja hälsa hos patienter med venösa bensår. Metoden som valdes var kvalitativ innehållsanalys med induktiv ansats.
